Born on Maui, Hawaii, raised in Southern
California, Don has the 'essence of paradise' woven into his body and mind.
The son of a family of professional artists, he received his formal
training at CSU Fullerton majoring in art and graduated from SDSU with a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Art.
Don has been painting professionally for almost 30 years. His highly
acclaimed and awarded artwork has been shown both locally and nationally.
His commercial graphics have graced many high profile publications,
posters, CD ROMs, websites, media logos and packaging. Although fluent in
computer graphics technology, his main love is that of painting.
His acrylic and watercolor paintings reflect his training in design and
his belief in "balance". The use of brilliant color schemes is his
1970’s-Don moves to Encinitas and opens ‘Pyramid Arts’ studio.
Produced many original paintings and commercial designs.
1980’s-Has many gallery showings of works in both Laguna Beach and San
Diego. Won awards in many art shows including the Del Mar Fair.
Commercial work takes him around the state and country painting murals in
Malls and Medical centers.
1990’s-Makes the computer his newest form of artistic creation. Art
Director/designer for the world acclaimed Compton’s New Media Multimedia
CD Encyclopedia. Continues painting works for interior design
specialists for medical centers, including Kaiser Permanente, Sharp Memorial and
2000-Present; Designs, builds and implements websites for a variety of
clients. The hallmark; beautiful art and design. Re-focus on
water-color and acrylic paintings. Launches ‘Painter of Paradise’ business and
website. Continues to travel, expand his creative horizons and paint.
I used to think that 'paradise' was limited to just
tropical places. I was much younger then... now the truth is, paradise
is everywhere - all you have to do is look with your heart.
We as humans have created so much, but nothing compared to the
creations of nature. Therefore, much of my work is dedicated to depicting the
immense beauty of nature.
I heard once, nature imitates art, and art is an interpretation of
nature. I enjoy being that medium, that muse that interprets the awesome
aspects of nature into art that we can all enjoy.
Weather in acrylics or watercolors, the flowing aspect of watermedia
paints and the way they work with reflected light are my favorite ways to
I paint to remind us all of paradise. And to remind us all of the
inspirations that nature has to offer us.
